Title: The molecular mechanism of RNA silencing and beyond.

Presenter: Yukihide Tomari, Professor, Institute for Quantitative Biosciences, The University of Tokyo

Abstract
Proteins typically possess well-defined folds and structures that dictate their molecular functions. Through our research on the molecular mechanism of RNA silencing, we serendipitously discovered that a class of intrinsically non-structured proteins, which we termed “Hero” (heat-resistant obscure) proteins, are widespread in animals, including humans. In this presentation, I will discuss how Hero proteins function as molecular shields, protecting various “client” proteins from stress and denaturation, at the organismal, cellular, and molecular levels.
