To understand cell functions, it is important to know the localization of molecules (proteins and lipids) and their interactions. Cells are compartmentalized into many organelles and molecules are transported between them by complicated traffic of small vesicles.
The focus of our laboratory is on mechanisms of the membrane traffic in the endocytic and secretory pathways. To this end, we use molecular and cell biological techniques. As it is essential to learn the localization and interactions of molecules in living cells, we use various imaging techniques to understand how molecules work within cells. A@Specifically, we are interested in the lipid-protein interactions on the membranes. Our research is also very important for understanding the nature of human diseases such as diabetes and neurological diseases.
